We need to lift a 5 tonne pump out of a wet well using an overhead travelling crane, this cannot be done in a single lift due to height restrictions in the building over the well. What can be used to do this?

Is this because the pump hits the crane's travelling rail before it is out of the well?

Many options:
1) Use a winch tied to the pump and a pulley.
2) Fill the well with water and float the pump up.
3) Disassemble the pump and bring it up in parts.
4) Reverse the procees of putting the pump in the well.
Good Luck.

Lift pump part of the way then tie it off and get another grip. Repeat as needed.

Is the height restriction because the well depth is greater than the building ceiling height, and pipe connected to the pump exceeds that? How about lift, cut (or disconnect) free end of pipe, lift, cut pipe, and so on... Post someone to watch that the top end of the pipe does not contact electrical, or other obstructions.

Good Luck,

Thanks for the replies. Lift pump part of the way then tie it off and get another grip is how I imagined we'd do it but I wondered if there is a piece of kit available that would be attached to the crane, maybe the crane needs to have two hook arrangement?
