I am a structural engineer attempting to determine the maximum bending moment present in partially embedded 14" square concrete pilings (x34' lg.) which are part of the foundation for an elevated waterfront structure. Lateral loads (from wind) are applied at the top of the piling which is approximately 14' above the sand. The remaining 20' of the piling is below ground level. Some consideration for scouring must also be made.
Obviously, the bending moment is not equal to the lateral load times 14ft. There must be some relationship between the stiffness of the sand (submerged in water), the stiffness of the piling, the depth of the piling below grade, and the lateral load at the top of the piling, etc.
Can anyone refer me to a good reference for this information?
