Is there a problem laser welding 304L SS parts that have a recast layer from a previous wire EDM process?

With any welding procedure, no matter how advanced or crude, the cleanliness of the joint will have an outcome on the weld property. You can always try a number of samples and then have your weld joints x-rayed and destructive tested. Depending on what the final product is, you may have pre-weld standards to adhere to.
