Language translator for design tree

Does anyone know of a way to translate the design tree from german to english? We have plants in Switzerland and Germany and often bring in files. It is time consuming to try to go down the tree and systematically figure out what is what, and in what order they created the part.

You could try changing your windows regional settings, but I don't know if that will work. Try it and let us know.

I tried a couple of things in the windows settings... to no avail.
I also searched the "help" in Solidworks. There's an option for making solidworks work in different languages other than your systems language, but it said specifically that it wouldn't translate things that were already created or named in another language.
I thought that surely someone else may be dealing with the same issue.
If there is no solution, I'll send it in as an enhancement request.

When you install SolidWorks you have the option of installing other languages. If you installed German also there must be some way to switch between the two?? Just a though!.

The problem is that if you try to install a German seat of SW you will need a German seat of Windows as well. Just changing the Regional settings will not work in that case. A German seat will also require a Dongle whereas a USA seat does not.

What one of my customers is doing, is they have a Computer that is using a Japanese OS and with that is a Japanese SW seat. Of course they have a person there that can read Japanese. So he helps with the translation, but they can open up files directly from Japan and not have a large issue with a translating it. But they have an advantage with someone there that speaks and reads it.

Sorry Scott wasn't clear. When installing the English version of SW you also have the option to install other languages along with English. If he were to install German also would that solve the problem?

No it wouldn't. The German seat would require a different serial number. The serial number he has is for an English seat. The German seat would also have to have a speical Dongle to run.

I am not positive, but I believe you can probably do this with API. I know you can get the feature name with API, but then you would have to fire up a thrid party application to translate the text and then send it back to rename the features. An alternative to using a thrid part program would be to have some sort of custom dictionary in a note pad file that could translate the more common terms, that might be the easiest way to translate. Either way it would be a project, but it sounds like you will be needing to this often so it may be worth while to go for it, or find someone to create the macro, I am sure it would cost a nice penny but sounds worth it to me.

My experience with language translators, especially for technical terminolgy, is that the verbage is generally not recognized.

Add to that the issue that long, descriptive names make it HARDER to read the feature manager, and you'll also see a need for a translator for your OWN language :/

Sounds like there definately is not an easy solution.
Engineers also tend to use many abbreviations, which complicates matters.
I'm still open to any other ideas, and I'll be sure to post anything I come up with besides the slow and painfull way I'm doing it now.
