Hi,

Is there a requirement for labelling inside of a panel for UL 508A?

Do I need something saying "120 VAC Power In", "120 VAC Relays", etc??

Thx!

Hmm, yes probably, but the real answer is "read the spec."

It also depends on the location and the definition of "panel". The requirements for listing by an NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Lab, of which UL is one of many) vary from state to state and even by large cities. The National Electric Code does not specifically require NRTL listing, but implies it in many places.

Where do I get a copy of the UL 508A specifications?

Do I have to buy it from UL or can it be legally downloaded for free?

You have to buy it, but also, you can't just buy use the standard and say your panel is UL 508A listed. You have to apply for and attain a certification from UL for that. They will come out and give you training, then you submit a panel assembly for their inspection, along with a list of everything you plant to use in panels (which can be edited along the way), your record keeping procedures, shop procedures and testing. Then if they are satisfied, they license you to be able to apply a UL 508A label (they supply the labels too). Then periodically they will visit your shop for pop-in inspections (for which you pay). In that entire process, they give you a copy of the standard and you get on an update list so long as you maintain your license.
