I have a small composite assy FEM that includes a joggled bolted single lap shear joint with a small amount of bending and compression. Macro panel geometry is organically curved. About 2 dozen fasteners. Since the joggle depth is 1 panel thickness, I was planning to exclude the joggle step from the mesh, include an element offset on the overlap face, RBE2/CBUSH elements to model the fastener connections between the two components, and calculate the fastener and bearing margins by hand along with a Kt for the joggle strains. However, I am having a hard time finding a reference for an appropriate Kt. Does anyone have a reference for a good Kt on this geometry? Is this a recommended path?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

The joggle and the joint are separate analyses.
Don’t model the joggle, and don’t use offsets (they can have incorrect or unintuitive results).
For the joggle, you need to check:
- in-plane laminate strength with the moment due to the joggle. Use a hand calc given the applied far field loads.
- interlaminar tension in the joggle radii using applied moment and curved beam formula.
