I am replacing my range vent hood. I need to use different duct adapters, and because of that the new vent hood will not mate up with the ductwork. The ductwork already has a swiveling type elbow, so I can twist it to angle it correctly. But duct length is a problem. Duct pipe seems to come in standard lengths only.

This would be easy to fix with the semi-rigid aluminum duct, but obviously that is a bad idea with a cooking exhaust vent.

So sticking with rigid, sheet metal duct- is there any type of telescoping adapter that can make up or take up slack to fit?

Why is semi-rigid a bad idea?

I've got exactly that going from my hood to the exhaust vent. It's been in place for over 30 yrs with no apparent degradation.

I'm only guessing that semi-rigid isn't the right stuff. I noticed that in new construction and remodeling, they use rigid sheet metal ducts for the kitchen, but for bathroom vents they use semi-rigid. I figure they would have used semi-rigid everywhere if they could.

Yes, this is a residential range hood

Can you blank off the hood opening & provide a new opening lined up with the ductwork.

There is already a swivel fitting on the duct, I am all set as far as lining up goes. My problem is how to deal with an odd length of rigid duct. I suppose I could get a longer piece and cut it down to the size needed?
