Ring Gasket sealing 18" 2500#.

The gasket is made of welded ring, that is ring with one weld joint, the welded ring is subsequently machined (No objection by client for using Welded joint gasket) so long as the hardness requirement is met (and the requirement is met).

Now the question is, is this joint a Pressure Part?

There is a statement that all Butt joints (Pressure part) require PWHT and are required to be 100% Radiographed and 100% MPI tested and hardness examined.

We are OK with MPI/DP and hardness survey.

I am confident that i will be able to get any disposition from client, but i want to do the right thing, hence would like to know whether the joint is a Pressure part (in the sprit of the requirement)

Are there special requiremnts on a weld in a gasket used on an ASME Pressure vessel, The vessel is a U stamp vessel.

Is it necessary that the gasket manufacturer is requied to be U stamp shop (because he is welding the gaskets)

I would not consider a gasket design (welded ring or otherwise) a pressure part under the rules of ASME B&PV Code.

In relation to the geometry pressure containing parts the scope of Section VIII Div.1 ends with the face of first flange for bolted, flanged connections. Please see U-1(e)(1)(c) of SC VIII Div.1
I would consider as follows;
Gasket is out of the scope, It is not required to have U stamp for the gasket manufacturer.
