Is it possible to retain wave links when moving a part into another part?

I've got a basic top level assembly with many parts under it.
A1
p1
p2
p3
p4

After some design work it would make more sense now to make a new assembly "A2" and drag parts p1 and p2 in there. The problem is, when you do that any wave links get broken. I know I can re-link them, like in my simple example above, but in reality I have a fixture designed with 100+ parts and now want to organize it into assemblies to make doing assembly drawings easier etc.

There's got to be an easy way of doing this, but can't seem to find any help on this.

Thx.

I'm running NX8.0.3.4

Why not just do a 'Save-As' and then make the changes to the 'new' Assembly?

NX has a special function for this purpose. Clone assembly.
It will re-map all the links for you.

The user interface might be a bit difficult the first times used but apart from that it does the trick.

"Why not just do a 'Save-As' and then make the changes to the 'new' Assembly?"

I guess that will work, but I have to save the master assembly say 6 times and then open each one up and delete all the parts that aren't part of the assembly. That is time consuming. It seems like there should be a drag and drop method like solidworks. :(

Ok, i'll give this one more go before i abandon the thread.

In NX, Assemblies - Cloning.. - create clone assembly,
Main tab : Add Assembly
Set the default clone action, edit the Exceptions ( Clone / retain / replace)
Naming tab
set how you want the naming of the clones and the output directory.
Main tab:
tick the dry run + Execute, close the listing window
above this option : change from "Root parts only" to "full" then click the "Report to information window".
If this is as intended, then click "Execute" , else you can change things before "Execute" the cloning.

Tomas
