Hi All,

When I first purchased and installed my STUDENT copy of Inventor it worked just fine and I could export files to .dxf, it was in the list. Last year I upgraded to a more powerful computer and after installing Inventor the Export to .dxf had dissapeared. I tried re-installing, I seached everywhere in my setup options to no avail. At that time it didn't matter but now it is a necessity.

I asked the question through an Autodesk discussion group without success, I now turn to a tried and trusted problem solving forum. Can anyone give me an answer to my problem.

Best Rgds,

Post screen shot.
Post url to previous discussion so that we don't have to repeat same attempts to solve the issue.
As it is, you haven't even stated what version 2011? 2012? 2013? what Service Pack or what OS or anything you have tried other than re-install to resolve the issue.

I assume you are talking about component files since drawings can be done with Save As. If it is really important why not save as DWG then open in AutoCAD and then save as DXF? However as far a solids are concerned there is no difference between the two so why not just issue the DWG instead, most software reads DWG solids directly.

Hi rollupswx

I did state the version of Inventor in the title bar - 2011 Pro., but with that asside, my OS is Windows 7 - Service Pack 1. I've attached some screen shots for you to look at.
Apart from re-installing Inventor I have searched through the options area of Inventor.

Hi EngAddict,

As you will see from the screen captures, even .dwg does not show up. I can save to CATIA V5 - import this - explode the block and the save to dwg or dxf.

I do not see it in 2013 either unless I am in a sheet metal part and right click on the Flat Pattern node or right click on a face.

Hi rollupswx,

OK now I see the extensions .dwg & .dxf but when I go to Save Copy As I end up with an error:-

Sketch export failed to initilize translator
