Currently using SW 2003 and would like to start collaboration and file sharing with a sister office in Germany - we are located in Tempe, AZ.

What i proposed was a replicated server approach - two servers, one in Germany and the other in AZ - each of the sites users would work locally and then the local server would replicate with the other server during an agreed-upon "off-time".

I contacted my local SW supplier who has been unable to offer any solutions.

Suggestions?

Sounds like you need to use 3D meeting. I think that would work better for you. That is offer by SW and I don't think you need a version of Office. Check your Tools\Add-ins and see if it's checked.

If you have a version of SW Office, you can use 3D instant website.

Maybe even something like Webex might help you out.
I hope that helps,

I have worked in the mode you have described above. It depends heavily on the self-discipline of persons on both sides of the pond. Still, it can work.

One feature we had with this system was a live "bulletin board" to post which files were being modified. I didn't do any of the programming, so I couldn't tell you how it was done.

What I am hoping to do is to implement a solution that is similiar to what we are doing with Pro-E and IntraLink. We work with an outsource engineering firm and they simply log into IntraLink and access the files as if they were a user within the same building. The biggest difference in this SW application is that the users would be 2 continents away whereas our outsource engineering firm is only 15 miles away.

Can't you set-up an FTP site at one of the locations to be the "master file"?

I worked with a consultant in Montreal (I'm in Los Angeles) and we had the FTP site. It was very easy for him to log-in and get and put files as required.
