Good morning Gents.

Painting on internal surface of Crude Oil tank usually only bottom plate and 1 M of the shell from the bottom plate.

The remaining shell portion above this 1 meter is not coated.

Usually we applied 1 layers of diesel oil to this un-painted surface to prevent from corrosion since some time the real product will come to the tank after 6 months or even more.

Any comments ?

Kind of depends on your contents and how any slight rust colour would be seen.

The amount of corrosion would be very low as once the water is used up, then there is very little air being replenished.

Alternatively you could just purge with super dry air before you close the tank up and then let it breathe via a dessicant filter to dry any incoming air.... Spraying or painting diesel inside a closed tank does not sound like a good idea to me. Diesel is still hydrocarboncs and you will get an explosive atmosphere in there while you have men in the tank.

There are many products which can be spray applied, some water based, to provide film corrosion protection much more safely if this is an issue for you.

Thanks LittleInch,

Could you please advise one of the water base product to provide film corrosion ?

or the website link ?

a google search for corrosion film should find you a few manufacturers / vendors to talk to, but try

as starters - note I haven't used them, but I know it is available, just costs more than diesel, but it is rather safer....

you could try asking in the corrosion engineering form specifically about tank anti-corrosion coating for this period

Thanks LittleInch,

I remember now that I saw our preservation team using VCI product during preservation the internal surface of the tank after completely hydrotested.
