Dear all,
if I have an ASME IX PQR qualified welding a P-No.1 material with a 3 mm root made of inconel 625 by weld overlay to a P-No.10H material (BW full penetration) am I allowed to write a WPS for a partial penetration joint P-No.1 to P-No.10H without inconel 625 root on the carbon steel side?
The PQR joint thickness is 50 mm.
All PQR tests are performed top and bottom, so the CS side is fully tested without root, except for side bend testing which is made on the full joint thickness.

Can you provide a sketch of the joint used to qualify the WPS you already have? I can't picture exactly what you did from the description you provided. As recorded by the PQR, is the P-1 material welded to the P-10H material using Inconel 625 filler metal?
 
Sure, here you go.
The filler metal is ER NiCrMo-13 (alloy 59)
Root and hot pass are made by manual GTAW, fill and cap by automatic GTAW.

The aim is to write a production WPS for a partial penetration joint between CS and DSS using automatic GTAW only. In this configuration the CS side will not have the inconel 625 inner layer.
