This is a slant on the familiar problem of the interference fit of cylinders, except in this case the two parts are circular pipes or toroids (see word doc for pic). Because the two toroids are cooled by water at different temperatures they'll see different radial expansion and as such will see hoop stresses. How can this be calculated?
