Hi,
I work in a pilot hydrocarbon plant and am involved with installation of instrumentation. I'm trying to find some layman information regarding "NACE" rated valves etc, specifically why they are specified in refineries, & to help with my understanding and pitfalls associated with same. Cheers.

I suspect that you are referring to valves that comply with the NACE standard for prevention of sulfide stress cracking of oil field equipment (MR0175, available at $60 for non-members, $45 for NACE members). This standard deals with material selection and hardness controls to avoid sulfide cracking of components in sour service whether oil field, gas processing, refining, etc. Good luck.
