For all those Ontario civil engineers out there in road/highway design field, which design programs are considered essential? What are some good courses offered to learn such programs or are they normally learned on-the-job? Just a question I got from an EIT wanting to get into transportation design.

UTciveng,MicroStation and InRoads are very popular in Ontario because of MTO and a number of municipalities using the software. Not many people are using LDD anymore it is now "AutoCAD Civil 3D" from Autodesk.

Our company provides training and consulting on all three software packages. We have a number of tips and tricks and video tutorials on our website.

We provide onsite training, distance learning, and self paced training. I was in Toronto early this year and would love to go back.

Another free option is Youtube if you don't mind wading through all the videos. Autodesk, Bentley Systems, and EnvisionCAD all have youtube channels that have tutorials.
