Initial stress

Hello ,

I am trying to analyse a part in which, the stresses(residual/intial stresses) are varying along the thickeness , Do anybody know how this could be done? With ISTRESS, the last defined state would be the only one present, since the others are overwritten. With ISFILE, I should tip in an input file the stresses for each element separatedly,

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Correct. Assuming this is an ANSYS analysis. ISTRESS/ISFILE should be used to account for initial stresses in a body. You can use this method to account for residual stresses, but you need to make sure that once you import the stresses that you carry out a single -- and separate -- SOLVE command to find the initial stress state. This is very important. Then you can apply further loads and SOLVE commands to find further stress states.
