Information on Profibus DeviceNet etc for Students

We teach automation to Diploma Students but the field is moving astronomically towards networks. Can anyone link me to documents which can simply explain this technology and where its heading? We are also interested in purchasing a "Lab bundle" similar to CISCO which can be used for training purposes. This bungle could include Profibus compatible hardware and OPX servers. We have just bought labview and would also like to make it useful here.
