According to BS 5400-2, the dynamic factor for Railway Bridges should be calculated considering the Influence Line length (L). When the Influence line is unsymmetric, "L" should be calculated as twice the length of the distance between "point of zero" and "point of maximum value". Hence when designing a truss bridge or a spliced connection of a plate girder, the influence line length should be the twice the length of shorter side of the IL diagram for that particular member or the spliced connection. Am I correct? Otherwise is it the total span of the bridge?
