hi,
I've been trying to simulate ida in sap2000. I have used a concrete 2D frame. I am stuck at non linear link and hinge modelling. I am attaching the file upto which i have done(basically ran analysis without considering non linear link/hinge elements). Could anyone help me with modelling of link/hinge? also is my model complete after modelling hinge/link elements or do i have to incorporate something else too?

You haven't defined or assigned any hinges or link properties. Use Define menu>Section properties to do both. Hinges are assigned to frame elements, typically near the beginning and end joints, but slightly offset like relative .02 and .98 for example.

Link elements are typically used as boundary conditions and drawn as either one point or two point links. What are you hoping to accomplish with using nonlinear links, and which link elements did you have in mind?

Since you're running dynamic analyses, it would be a good idea to assign frame automeshing to all the elements in your model... maximum length 2 ft. or something similar.

You don't have to rely only on SAP2000 user manuals for assistance, you can google search with your questions for help. The CSI Knowledge base pops up a lot when you google. So does eng-tips
