I am interested in sourcing the proper formulae regarding the shear or thread strengths for inclined thread forms, NPT, EUE, NUE, VAM, etc. How much tensile load can a particular threaded connection handle?
To date I have been "rectifying" an inclined thread using an equivalent straight thread with the same pitch diameter and applying the proper equations, ANSI B1.5-1977, B1.1-1982 for Acme, Stub Acme and Unified Thread forms. ANSI B1.20.3-1976 standard for Dryseal Pipe Threads does not list equations nor discuss thread strengths. Is there some underlying reason for this? Kenneth J Hueston, PEng
