I am using SW 2005, COSMOSWorks with Motion. I am analyzing loads on an assembly containing the following:

Weldment 1(assembly)
Weldment 2(assembly)
Pin(motion constraint)
Spring(motion constraint)

I created a Motion analysis where a load on Weldment 1 transfers to Weldment 2 through the pin and spring. This creates data that I want to transfer into COSMOSWorks in order to analyze Weldment 2. The problem is that I am unable to import Motion loads into Weldment 2, a sub-assembly of the "Motion" assembly.

I can save both Weldment 1 and Weldment 2 as parts, do my Motion analysis, then import Motion loads. However, this is time consuming when changes need to be made.

I'd be interested to see how others have dealt with this limitation.

Disclaimer: info related to SW2003/CosmosWorks2003/CosmosMotion2003

1- start any analysis from the top assembly level. The first step is the kineto-dynamic analysis in Motion. Once the solution is obtained, go to "Transfer to CosmosWorks" and choose which "frame" to export to CW. In the subsequent window, select all the bodies for which the result transfer is needed; the list of available kineto-dynamic loads will update consequently; choose the k-d data needed (body forces, mutual loads, ...); when prompted, give a name for the data file.

2- directly from thetop level assembly, go to the CW tab, from the CW menu choose "Import Motion Loads", and point to the previously saved file. Several "special-type" loads will appear under the Loads in the CW tree.

This used to work the last time I used it, but version 2003 can be considered a dinosaur now...

Good luck, regards.
