Dear all,
Thanks for the replies. Maybe let me elaborate further on my questions.
Basically we are trying to fulfill the requirement as per Section 7.5, Annex I, PED where its bending rupture energy measured on an ISO V test-piece is no less than 27 J, at a temperature not greater than 20 °C but not higher than the lowest scheduled operating temperature.
As mentioned, our pipe size is 1.5 inch SCH 40 (3.68 mm thickness), which the thickness is less than reference specimen thickness of 10 mm. I read that when a test piece of 10 mm x 10 mm cannot be obtained, it is necessary to use a sub-sized specimen of at least of 5 mm thickness and to adjust the value of impact test (based on EN 13445-2, the adjusted value is 14 J). And for test piece with thickness less than 5 mm, the verification of the specified 27 J is not required.
And according to ISO 148-1, the smallest sub-size can be defined in 10 mm X 2.5 mm X 55 mm.
So the question is, is it possible and necessary to do impact test on 1.5 inch SCH 40 pipe with thickness less than 5 mm? If yes, what is the value of impact test that I should refer in order to comply to PED?
