Besides the fire rated requirements, what are the difference in structural design for type III-A and type V-A wood framed buildings, if any? Even though code analysis is done by the Architect, I am wondering if there are any specific design requirements for type V-A vs. III-A.

The exterior bearing walls in IIIA typically can NOT have materials that are considered combustible (basically ASTM 136 compliant plus composite materials like gyp bd). if the exterior wall is nonbearing AND has no required fire rating than fire-retardant-treated wood can be used HOWEVER any load-bearing structure in the non-bearing wall would still need to be fire rated. IMO
