Hello,
I'm in way over my head as I've been asked what it will take to get our product (metal/plastic fasteners)code approved in south Florida. I am a mechanical/manufacturing engineer and have no idea what building codes might be?

I've found that the codes and test standards are a rabbit hole of test requirements referencing other methods and standards. I don't know the whole scope of testing, so I don't what to tell anyone what we need, as I don't know.

Our product is made in Asia, and we are no more than a distributor - we don't spec anything, and don't even have product drawings. I'm thinking at the very least, we need to get product drawings before we do anything else. And if we do get them, then the next step would be to hire a south Florida P.E. to manage the testing and application submittal.

Is this correct thinking? Can anyone point me to a clear and simple process list of what needs to be done and by whom that I can show management?

Thank you in advance...

I would start here If you want to see what approvals look like, look here Then you can start looking for a Florida professional to Shepard the process.

A typical submission and approval can be found here
