I am studying electrical engineering and need to justify a phenominum. When I calculate the impedance of a 2 branch parallel circuit containing a coil with a resistance in branch 1 and a power factor correction capacitor in branch 2. When I calculate the current total is the current phase angle always 0 degrees?

No. Resistance phase angle is zero.
Capacitor phase angel is leading 90 degrees.
Pythagoras tells us to use I total = √{(resistance current)2 + (capacitor current)2}
eg. for 10 Amps through the resistance and 10 Amps through the capacitor, the total current will be
√(10 Amps resistance current)2 plus (10 Amps capacitor current)2
√{{10 x 10) + (10 x 10)= 200
√200 = 14.14 Amps total current. (corrected)
