I'm looking at a municipalitie's specifications for concrete to be used in a wastewtaer pump station wet well design. They require "Hydraulic Content Concrete". What exactly is that? I was thinking it may be a concrete mix with a water proofing admixture like Xypex or Penetron, but wasnt sure.

Thanks,

Mike

There's hydraulic cement, which is a fast setting material used for plugging active leaks. There's no reason to use if for a wetwell construction. A municipality might need it for sealing pipe penetrations for manholes.
If you use concrete with Xypex or another magic admixture, you'll make Xypex very happy, but it really isn't necessary. Use sufficiently thick walls (at least 12 inches if the structural analysis agrees), .45 w/c ratio, good waterstop details and require good workmanship and the structure shouldn't leak.
Note that sewage wetwells need either interior coatings or linings to prevent damage from sewer gasses.

I agree 100%. Those products make much better trial on products. They're also requiring a liner too. Seems overkill to me. I just wanted to make sure I knew what I was talking about when I engaged them in discussion. This one is on the developers dime however so I suspect we'll end up doing both.

I don't know about your developers, but ours only care about getting enough quality to make the structure and/or equipment last until they hand it over to the town or city. It's refreshing to hear about one who wants a belt and suspenders.
No one's ever sold a house by the upgrades in the sewer system.

I meant the municipality will likely make us do both, and no big deal to them since the developer is paying for it. I'm all in not building a crappy station, but a liner & xypex type admixture just seems a bit overboard.

And many of the hydraulic cements set up VERY fast - like 5-10 minutes. Make sure what you are using before you start
