Hello All,

I was reviewing AISC 360 and Table K5.1 for a "T" type connection with matched width chord and branch members & Theta = 90 Deg. Both of these qualifications meet the applicability of the following note beneath the weld properties in the same Table: When Beta > 0.85 or Theta > 50 Deg., Be / 2 Shall not exceed Bb / 4. The commentary goes on to read that the effective length is decreased for these scenarios. It is my understand that this type of connection is not forbidden. Instead, in equations (K-5 to K5-7) Be would be replaced with Bb / 2 because the effective length of the weld transverse to the moment needs to be reduced further. Has anyone encountered this or recommend a design example to follow?
