Can anyone give me a total number “approximant” of welds in the Boiler feed water system for a HRSG? Thanks Jim

90harley,
This is not a valid question. The number of welds in the system depends on the number of suction sources (Deareators), the number of pumps (two 100% pumps or three 50% pumps or?) and the number of boilers fed by this common system. It also depends on the general piping configuration.

There is really no "average" to base it on.

Yea, after thanking it through I came to the same conclusion. How ever, the HRSG’s are Nooter/Eriksen with only 1 DA tank over the LP drum, using 2 100% BFW pumps supplying only 1 HRSG. From a bid stand point it would be nice if the HRSG maf. would provide a GA drawing showing the amount of FW remaining in the erection of the unit. Example, if in 10 spool pieces you have 5 shop welds based on the connection points listed in the drawing you will have 4 tie in welds or field welds. There is no quick way to determine this with out going over all the drawings and counting all the welds. This project will have around 6000 welds.

If they modeled the piping using one of several popular software packages, the piping engineering group should be able to generate that information automatically.

That aside, it shouldn't take too long to go through the ISOs for a feedwater system and count, especially if you don't factor in small bore branch connections.
