If I am upgrading the 85101A and 85102A to the 85101C and 85102B, will that still work with an 8340A sweeper? The HP upgrade guide indicates degraded performance if sweeper is not upgraded with $33K replacement but I never test above 6 GHz. Does this relate to speed of measurement, noise floor/dynamic range, upper freq limit or some other thing?

Hi,

I don't think you will have a huge problem with using your old sweeper. The only thing that it may affect is the dynamic range and that's usually due to how much power your sweeper can output compared to what the analyser requires. I use all sorts of combinations of new and old Analyser/sweeper combinations up to the 18GHz range with no problems! Try it and see, you could always up-grade your sweeper if necessary.
