The erroe message given by the APDL is , Area 1 is irregular, cannot be map meshed with quadrilaterals'.

Mapped mesh can only be used for regular area that meets certain conditions. The key one is that it has to bounded by 3 or 4 lines but there are ways to bypass this limitation. If the surface is too complex you can try using face partitions.

Hi,
I assume you are using Main Menu>Preprocessor>Meshing>Mesh>Areas>Mapped>3 or 4 sided.

Your geometrical area A1 seems quadrilateral. I'd recommend using Main Menu>Preprocessor>Meshing>Mesh>Areas>Mapped>By Corners and select the area and its corners .

Alternatively, you can use AMAP, AREA, KP1, KP2, KP3, KP4 command
