Hmmm, spoke faster than I could think that time. There is a workaround.
Use the view that you wish to use for your new parent to generate new projected and auxiliary views, including the original parent. Those new "chld" views will follow their parent, not their "grandparent". You can then delete the obsoleted parent.
You can move a dimension from one view to another by holding
Shift when you click-drag the dimension to the new view. It doesn't always work, but when it does, it saves much time.
I don't think you'll be able to "transfer custody" of detail and section views that belong to the obsoleted parent.
Look into view rotate. You can rotate the oiginal parent and have the children views update along with it. This may suit your needs, as well.
