Hi,

One of our engineers has asked how to section a broken view in NX8.5.

The example is a long shaft that needs to be broken to display properly, and also needs to be sectioned at the same time to see the internals.

It doesn't matter if you break the base view first, then try to section it, or alternatively section the base view and then try to break it.
In all cases a warning is given "view break will result in a hidden section line".

I've done a quick mock-up to show the problem (in 8.5), with some screenshots attached.

Thanks in advance, Carl

Why not have a projected view that shows the hidden lines of the material thickness (or whatever the crosshatching is representing)? Would that work? You can set your hidden lines to be solid and manually add the crosshatching. Not the most ideal workaround, but might do in a pinch.

Just tried it in NX8.5.1.3, sectioning a base view then breaking the section view seems to work fine and maintain the section line, however sectionong a broken view wont display the section line. Its also possible to create a broken view of a break-out section.

Thanks for the replies!

Yes you can break a section view without problem.
The issue is when the original base view needs breaking first, in order to show sensibly on the sheet. And then sectioning afterwards.

Looks like Siemens are aware of the problem from SvenBoms link.
Apparently it's non standard, although you can do a break-out section on a broken view.

So it looks like workarounds for the time being are break-out or Tim's hidden line idea.
Or I suppose you could just draw the section line back on the base view once it disappears!

Cheers,
