How to purge chemical material ?

As we all know ,Production will do cleaning work. Purge with inert gas into somekind of system.
Does anyone knows ,is there somekind of standard or principle for this work?
Because everyone has different way to implement purging work. How to difine that ?

It depends how toxic/flammable/dangerous/corrosive the material is.
If it isn't very dangerous then often the rule is purge at XX flow for YY time.
A minimum of 7 volume exchanges is where people often start.
For something more dangerous you usually have to actually monitor it at the vent to assure complete purge.

The fastest way to decontaminate vapors from a vessel is to perform a series of pressurization/depressurization steps rather than (or before) starting a continuous purge.

Thank you guys .From my experience ,when we purge flammable material ,firstly we depressurize material into slop system.
Secondly we pressurize the vessel (flammable material ),keep purging and monitoring the concentration.
But we have to consider the material density, if consider that purge pipe from lower point to high point .
So that confuse a little bit , is there any experience for share with us ?
