Attached are pictures of what I'm trying to do.

The round diameter where the small holes are is 1.5" O.D.

The diameter of the small holes is: .030"

The holes are spaced .040" apart.

I can't figure out how to model holes in this pattern on the outside circumference of this shaft.

any help would be greatly appreciated... maybe if you could include an actual solidworks model that would be easiest so I can see the features used, etc.

Thanks so much!

Create a plane on the surface of the cylinder. Create one hole. Do a circular pattern feature of the hole, selecting the axis of the part to rotate about. You will have to figure out the spacing as an angle. But that is just the arc length... A solidworks help search on circular pattern should fill in the blanks.

Try curve driven pattern.

Even I think, curve driven pattern.

Create one hole, CD pattern it. This gives one half of the top row of holes.

Linear pattern, this gives one half of the all 3 rows.

Now mirror it.

this may not be allowed here.. but is it possible for one of you guys to make me a quick model with a row of holes in the arc shape like shown in the pictures? that would probably be the best way for me to take apart the model in Solidworks to see how it all works.. I'm trying but I am not getting anywhere with it, just getting frustrated.. the pattern isn't working out for me, I know it's something stupid but I can't figure it out..

CBL,

I thought, did and got exactly what you did. SW2009SP4.1

yeah the holes need to be straight through... how about a helix 'surface' wrapped around a solid shaft?

I think I got it. In the curve driven pattern you need to align tangent to curve and select the cylindrical face for the normal.

Hopefully the pictures will come through. If not I will repost.
