How to Insert Special Symbols & How to Get rid of Pixels

Hi everyone,

I've got 2 questions. Appreciate all advice and thanks.

1. How do I insert special symbols in my dimensioning text, such as degrees (small circle), diameter (circle with a slash), etc?

2. Whenever I modify something in my Mircostatin drawings, such as chamfering, copying, etc. I am getting lots of single-dot pixels esp. at the circles, and I need to go and delete them? Anyone had this before. What do I need to do to make sure that this doesn't happen. Must be a setting somewhere.

The answer to your 1st question: In Microstation we have many different texts that are available. If you are using J then change you text style. Text sets are available from D.O.T.'s Web sites. Simply the text that you are using does not have the symbols you need. 2nd, V8 allows imports from Microsoft products.
Second Question: Check your attributes settings and see if the constructions box is checked.

Hi Namdac,

Thank you very much for the prompt response. Will need to check out the font that I am using to see if there are any special symbols there. I am actually using the WORKING font, but how do I "open" up the alphabet set to see if the special symbols I want are there. Even if they are there, how do I insert them into my dimensioning text? is there a command such as "Insert Symbol" that I could use?

As for the attributes box, which one were you referring to, and how do I access it? For instance, is it a command on the top menu that I use to access it, or is it an icon I need to click? Once there, which boxes do I check or don't check to make sure the "pixelation" does not occur.

1st question: I use the desv8font in Microstation Version 8, and in that font, we have it set up that certain characters that you type will give you engineering symbols. For example:

! = diameter symbol
^ = degress symbol
} = delta
< = +-
> = PL for plate
\ = CL for centerline

Go to Element/Text or Element/Text styles depending on your version of Microstation. But like namdac said, your font may not have those symbols.

2nd question: Find the Construction box in the Settings/View Attributes menu.

Thanks for the responses and advice. In a little bit, I will to manipulate my text and fonts to get the speical symbols that I need. Will let you what happens.

However, I would like to focus on getting rid of that one-single pixel that seems to show whenever I chamfer two lines, for instance. I went to the View Attributes box from the Settings menu. Some of my boxes, such as Clip Volume, Constructions, Dimensions, Dynamics, Fill, Level Symbology, Line Styles, Line Weights, Patterns and Text are checked. All the rest of the boxes are unchecked. Do you guys know which ones I should check to make sure those little "annoying dots" do not show up whenever I chamfer two lines, etc.
