Hello?

I am a young engineer in hong kong's contractor and handling a job using a steel I-beam connected to the RC column. The cast-in anchor method is specified. I want to know how to design this connection and find some references.

Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!!

I assume the referred cast anchor will be a rectangular plate with paired columns of headed anchors within the concrete. It can have even another plate at the other side of the column, if required.

ACI in its publication Notes on ACI 318 and the PTI manual both must have information on the design of this kind of anchor plate that I for myself call zip connection.

I by the way am not at all confident in the results by the procedures given. You have free mathcad 2000 pro sheets for download in the Collaboratory that can deal with this particular item, I think to remember.

In any case be wary of this design if significant dynamical solicitations are to be sustained, if so make the anchors and plate at least more conservative.

It has been my experience that more likely than not, the embed plate will be mislocated in the field. So you might use an oversized plate and allow for a large tolerance in the location of the beam reaction.
