Hi all,
I did a search and I don't think I saw anything on FRP connections. Topics on FRP beams are all too scarce, anyway. Anyway, I am using an 8X8X08 WF-BEAM FRP beam for one of my structures because of its more corrosive-resistant properties. It is about 8' long. It is not supporting a lot of weight, just some mechanical equipment so my end reactions are not that large. I need to connect the end of this FRP beam horizontally to a reinforced concrete wall. FRP beams can't be welded, so I cannot weld a piece of base plate at the end of the FRP beam and anchor the base plate to the concrete wall. With a regular steel beam, I sure can. I believe I can use regular clip angle, or double clip angles; bolt one end to the FRP beam with A325 bolts, for instance, and anchor the other end into the concrete wall, with HILTI epoxy anchors, for example. I am comfortable using RAM Connection or RISA Connection, but I am still learning to design connections manually. Is this the correct approach, and what should I be designing for? Any helpful software, go-bys or useful references?
Thanks.
