How do you calculate Steam Carbon Ratio 1

I need to calulate the steam required to achieve a 4.0 steam to carbon ratio on a mole basis in a hydrogen plant.
I have DHA (detailed hydrocarbon analysis)of the feed stock.

What are the steps to calculate the ratio?

Well you have to know the hydrocarbon feed rate - typically it will be in units of MSCFH. This then has to be converted to a molar flow basis - lbmol/hr. Since you have a detailed hydrocarbon analysis you can then determine the total carbon flow rate as a percentage of the total flow rate. From that point your required molar steam flow rate is just 4 times your calculated carbon molar flow rate. Hope this helps.
 

Steam moles
----------------- > 4
Carbon moles

Steam = H20 moler flow
Carbon = any hydrocarbon beside CO2

eg; if you have 3mol/hr of C2H6 = C moles = 3*2=6 mol/hr

and you need to sum all the hydrocarbon to have the Total C mol/hr
