If you have SW2004 you can do the "Wrap" feature.

If you don't have 2004 you can do this. Create a tangent plane on the "outside" of the pipe. Use the plane as your sketch plane and insert your text sketch. Extrude the text sketch into the pipe using the "offset from surface" option. Select the outside face of the pipe as your surface. You may have to play with the "side to offset" and "extrude direction" buttons but it will work.

Along these same lines, is there a text font that makes creating a "text sketch" easy? Or do you have to re-create the letters one-by-one using the sketch tools?

I think almost any will work. We have standardized on Arial.

In Sketch Entities there is a text selection. You can adjust the font to your needs. You don't need to recreate each letter.

But you might have to create more than one cut-extrude for closed shapes of the letters A, B, D, O, P, Q, and R.

What version of SolidWorks do you have?

OK. Then you can do what the other suggested. If you can, I suggest upgrading to 2004 (or 2005 when it comes out in a month or so). The newer versions allow you to do a wrap which is much easier and looks better.
