Hi,
I'm looking for some document that explains how to calculate the pullback force necessary to insert a big steel pipe in a borehole realized with the horizontal directional drilling technique.
Does anybody know how I can get it?
Thank you in advance.

call up a boring contractor and ask them. This is highly variable and not something you can calculate with much accuracy. Usually estimated based on previous experience.

There is some software in the TechnicalToolboxes package that will help you predict the pulling force. I'm not sure what the software costs per year, but I know it is fairly expensive. When I have used it in the past it has been in the ball park, but I wouldn't say it's been terribly accurate.

Trying to do the calculations by hand would be pretty tedious.

Talking to a reputable contractor would be a good place to start if you don't have access to a software package that can help you.
