Hollow Core Plank Supports

I always have the same concern when I design one of these. 8" wide concrete beams on 4" steel columns. There isn't anything with any stiffness to resist torsion.

I have conditions with 22' span 6" planks with 2" topping on one side only and other conditions where there are planks on both sides.

Are there any references that address this condition?

With the end span condition, I would normally extend the HC across the c/l of the wall and provide 2" for grout at the end, ie, the HC would have approx 6" of bearing. I would have U bar dwls embedded in the beam and use hooked dowels through them to provide ties between the HC slabs. With HC on each side, I would have approx 3" of bearing with a 2" 'gap' in the middle. Rfg would be any verticals plus rebar between the planks in the 'keyway'.

forgot to add... they often use untempered masonite strips for bearings... alternate material is Korolath...
