Hole Callouts

Can someone tell me how to modify the Hole callout data. The standard callouts are in lower case and give us too much information. I have found a file called calloutformat.txt but modifying this does not seem to alter anything. Does this have to be compiled or something.

I have not done this, but!!! I think you will want to create your own standard. (Tools - options - system options - Data options). You can edit derived standards to suit.

I am not sure where the derived standards are kept or how they can be networked. I lost mine when my pc was upgraded. Hopefuly somebody clever will tell us how to avoid this.

I guess the first question I have is What method are you using to insert the callout? There are two, which give different results.

Method 1 (don't do this one):
Right-click the cosmetic thread and "Insert Callout". This is also the callout that comes in automatically if the tapped hole has "Add cosmetic thread with thread callout" selected in the hole wizard definition. This bring in the description listed in the hole wizard dialog box and will say something like "1/4-20 Tapped Hole"

Method 2 (do this one):
Select the edge of the hole and Insert, Annotations, Hole Callout... The button looks like a counterbore and diameter symbol. This is the command that will follow the calloutformat.txt file.

By making a new Data option or a New standard. All you do is create a new database derived from say ANSI. But it's used for making new types or new sizes of holes. You can't adjust the Hole Callout information using that option.

Any New DB you make is stored under your TB Browser folder. If you want to keep this data then you need to backup your TB before upgrading.

some how my TB folder is now local, when I thought it was networked.

I have an easy life on here Planet ISO, we do not have to put the pitch of tapped holes in to the callout.
%-)
In order to not put it in I had to change the value of <hw-threaddesc> which is defined in the "Thread Data" of a standard.

The "too much information" that joshposh asked about is probably contained in <hw-threaddesc>.
 
I have modified the Solid Works standards to match my company's standards but have been unsuccessful in modify the hole callouts to follow the new hole sizes that were created. I want the hole callout for my company's standard to be pretty much the same as the ANSI standard I based it off of. Does anyone know how this can be done?

Did you place the Thread data in DB when you changed it? Otherwise you will have to change the calloutformat.txt file to match your New standard DB.

After I created my new standard, I selected the relevent lines for the "Original" Standard (in your case ANSI) in calloutformat.txt, and copied and pasted them to the end of the file. Finally I amended the title of the newly pasted section to match the name of the derived Standard.
