Hello!

I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with the H&B HW-340 Wedge Inserts, but they've been used fairly regularly on a number of projects that I've come across recently.

I've been given the run-around, and currently have voicemails and emails in, but I was wondering if anyone else has ever requested information on their capacities. As listed, their ultimate strength is 16,650 lbs shear and 13,093 lbs tension for 4,125 psi concrete. I'm curious if this value takes into account the concrete breakout/shear checks as well, or if that is for the steel alone. On the one hand, the listing of the minimum concrete strength suggests that this is a factor taken into consideration, on the other hand it would certainly be helpful to have any documentation backing that up.

Thanks in advance!

I will preface this by stating that not only do I have zero experience with this specific wedge anchor, I had not even heard of them until today. I do have a fair amount of experience with concrete anchors in general, however.

After reading their data sheet I would interpret this to mean that the manufacturer has taken into account the concrete strength and the fact that you need a minimum 1.5" below the insert to develop the published loads. This to me, means that this has been tested for tensile breakout, shear breakout, and shear pryout (with consideration given to the surrounding edge distance.

It's of course always best to contact the manufacturer to be sure but that is how I interpret it when I read their data sheet.
