I am tasked with designing some equipment to operate within a high temperature (950 deg. F) atmosphere.

To prevent wear and galling, I will be coating some of the moving parts with plasma nitride. But I have one component that is not a good candidate for plasme nitriding, (X750 Inconel). I would like to coat this with a hard surface as well, does anyone have a suggestion for me?

Thank you in advance for your helpful suggestions.

Darrell

Depending on the application a thermal spray coating may work well. At 950F you would probably want to use a Chrome Carbide based coating with a Ni-Cr binder. It will be more expensive than nitriding and may require finishing. Feel free to contact me if you need more info. (matt.hinckley@tmtresearch.com)

Thanks, that is one of the options I have considered. I actually chose a PVD coating (AlNiTi). It is working very well in the preliminary testing of our product.
