I'm trying to source a 1/4" shaft mechanical seal that is good for 400 deg vegetable oil for a repair. The pressure is just above atmospheric. The present seal is a simple 1 spring type and it fits into a 3/4" bore. The seal faces seem OK but the inner elastomer is toast. I suspect it was a seal for a water application (buna, probably) and this limited it's life. Viton might work, but I can't seem to find a 1/4" mechanical seal of any variety from the usual sources. Maybe I have to switch to a stuffing box type. Any tips on suppliers?
