Hi Friends
I am max, While doing model useing UG nx5, I generated datum planes, here I facing problem that ie how to adjust datum plain sizes asper model. If anyone knows plz let me know how to adjust.

Just double-click the Datum Plane and then drag the handles (small yellow spheres along the edge of the Datum Plane) to change the size of the displayed Datum Plane.

I think he may be asking if the datums can auto-size to fit the part volume as the model progresses. To my knowledge, there's no way to do this.

If you do NOT edit the size of the Datum Plane manually, it's size will automatically adjust as that aspect of the model, which it was created relative to, updates. However, once you edit it manually, by dragging one or more of the handles I as described in my first reply, then it will retain its new size, even if you make further edits to the model.

So the rule is; If you want a Datum Plane to continue to update its size automatically as the model changes, avoid editing the size of the Datum Plane manually.

Any chance there could be a "toggle" to enable auto-resizing, or manual resizing, flexibly? Rather than the current situation, where if you manually resize a datum plane once, then you lose the ability for it to automatically resize.

Sorry, they used to always resize automatically and many customers asked that they be able to edit the size, but we couldn't have it both ways so we came up with the current behavior as a compromise. Now we could add a bunch of options and toggles and stuff like that, but all it would do is make the dialogs more complicated and require us to develop schemes to flip the status from one mode to another. Then someone will ask that we add a Customer Default so that users could preselect what the initial out-of-the-box behavior would be and of course a preference where I can override that. Sometimes, it's best to keep it simple and live within the rules.

Remember, you can not make something simpler to use by adding to it.

Out of curiosity...
Why do you need to change the size of a plane anyways?

They go on in every direction forever, don't they?

I know I do it once and awhile for visual appeal, but is there a real, valid reason to modify the size?

That is all that it does, changing the visual 'size' of the Datum Plane object. It has NO impact whatsoever on the behavior of the datum, only on its appearance.

What do you mean by 'Auto Dimension'?

If you use Drawing Templates and you have predefined views, when the part model is loaded into the template, any sketches and features such as holes, will be automatically annotated. Also in Sheet Metal, the bend lines are automatically annotated as well. Also centerlines are created for holes.

Note that if your models can be drawn using an Ordinate Dimensioning scheme, there will be more opportunities to dimension the locations of multiple features, such as holes, in a single operation.

That about covers the extent of so-called 'Auto Dimensioning'.

Hi friends

In catia this option is there. You can resize your datum planes. But I am thankfull all of you for your valuable suggetions.

And also I got another question , I,e Is there auto dimention option in drafting?
