Does anyone know of any free/shareware software for engineers.I'm looking for tools that I could load on my desktop and have easy access to everyday calculations, convertors, threads, o-rings, material etc.

Just a suggestion, instead of looking for stuff that will fit your calculation application, you can put together excel spread sheets that can do your everyday calculations and also you can tabulate the material specs as needed.

Suggest you invest in Mathcad and develop some of your own. There is a Mathcad lookalike freeware program out there. But of course it doesnt have software support etc.

A google search for engineering freeware will give you many sites. You can choose from the discipline that iterests you. Asking this forum is a little lazy.

Other free mathematical packages include R, for stats, and Octave, which is a Matlab clone like Scilab (it is a better clone but is not as actively supported, and less powerful).
