Help with RF signals and types. 1

Hi,
I need help with the different types of signals and the ranges that they fall in, most specifically RF, GSM, firewire and high frequency communications. I am looking for a good link to any site giving good details on frequency ranges.

Firewire is a wired standard often used for digital camcorder to PC connections.

HF is usually defined as RF between 3 and 30 MHz (also known as 'shortwave').

Not sure off-hand about GSM - it's one of those cell phone standards.

GSM appears to be 'tri-band': 900, 1800, and/or 1900 MHz, depending on where you are.

In the UK and Europe, GSM is operated on two frequency ranges, 900MHz and 1800MHz. The US uses 1900MHz. Tri-band phones can use all these frequencies.

Whereabouts in the world are you, Salmonaxe, since spectrum plans are defined by national governments and vary throughout the world.

Generally:

HF - 3-30MHz
VHF - 30-300MHz
UHF - 300MHz-3GHz
SHF - 3-30GHz (also called millimetre wave)
EHF - 30-300GHz
