Hello,

Recently a shaft for transmission of a ball mill was damaged. We want to use the same pinion, and are now fabricating a new shaft. We have doubts on the interference fit of the pinion with the shaft. I have not found any tables for this particular application, and I wonder if you can help me.

The shaft is 6" diameter, is used to move a pinion, that moves a gear. The shaft turns at about 600 rpm.

Hopefully you can help me...

Regards,
JM

the machinery's handbook by eric Oberg, franklin jones and others give tables for shrink fits under a section in the book called allowances and tolerances. you have to choose the class of fits based on the type of drive such as light, medium or heavy etc. the chart or table is ANSI B4.1-1967, R1979. This handbook is 23 edition I am sure there is newer editions.

Thank you!! I found the book and the dimension I was looking for
